SF indie rockers The Dodos have just shared a new song “Confidence” - an aggressive, stompy new tune from their upcoming album Carrier, due out in August. These guys are known for their driving rhythms, but their sound has definitely grown since their 2011 release No Color. Sounds like: Local Natives, Grizzly Bear.

Ambient-folk (is that a genre?) artist Julianna Barwick has premiered a new song “Forever” off her upcoming album Nepenthe, which is due out in August. She’s including some beautiful visuals from Reykjavík, Iceland, where she recorded the album with producer-engineer Alex Somers, of Sigur Rós projects Riceboy Sleeps and Jonsi and Alex.

Becky Cooper walked around the city distributing the outline of Manhattan to strangers, asked them to create their own maps based on their experiences and memories, and mail them back to her. She published the results in an incredibly book titled Mapping Manhattan: A Love (and Sometimes Hate) Story in Maps. I love this project, and you can submit your own map here.

The National play in a tiny room with a tiny air-guitar star in their video for “Sea of Love”, which they premiered on Reddit earlier this morning. Their new album Trouble Will Find Me drops May 20th.

To me, the Mermaid Parade means avoiding the subway because it’s filled with a bunch of half-naked crazy people, but for a lot of other Brooklyn folks, the parade is an important, and awesome, tradition. During Hurricane Sandy, Coney Island suffered a lot of damage, and the parade’s fate this year is uncertain. Help them out by donating a few bucks on Kickstarter, and help prove this parade is more important than Zack Braff’s new movie.
